Why Costa Blanca’s climate is truly one of a kind
Would you ever consider relocating to another country? If so, beyond job opportunities, what would matter most — lifestyle, climate, health, or community?

This week, on April 7th, we celebrated World Health Day initiated by the World Health Organization — a perfect moment to reflect on the places, habits, and choices that support our long-term well-being.
In my blog stories, I aim to share my personal experience with relocation and the non-work-related reasons that shape our lives long-term — like health and well-being. These are also key factors when considering a move abroad.
Take this photo, for example — two flamingos bathing in salt basins. It was taken in Lo Pagán, near San Pedro del Pinatar, at the very southern tip of Costa Blanca.
Lo Pagán is famous for its natural mud baths in the Las Salinas nature reserve. The mineral-rich mud, drawn from the Mar Menor, has been used for centuries to ease joint pain, soothe skin conditions, and support healing. Best part? It’s completely free — nature’s spa, open to everyone.
People travel from across Europe to cover themselves in this healing mud, dry under the sun, and rinse off in the warm waters. It’s one of Costa Blanca’s lesser-known treasures — and one reason why life here feels uniquely different. Even flamingos love Lo Pagán — thanks to its salt lakes and warm, shallow waters. But the mud is only part of the story.
In an earlier blog, I wrote about the sun — how vitamin D and natural light reduce stress and boost immunity. But Costa Blanca’s magic is in the overall climate. With 300+ days of sunshine, mild winters, and coastal breezes, this region offers a way of life we could call one of the healthiest in Europe.
So what makes this climate so unique?
It’s the mix of salt lakes that purify the air, mountains that shield from harsh winds, and its ideal Mediterranean positioning. This creates a stable, dry, and comfortable microclimate — especially helpful for those with respiratory issues, arthritis, or skin conditions. Fresh air, soft light, and a slower rhythm of life. Whether hiking the hills, cycling, running, or walking barefoot on the sand — this climate supports it all.
For me, Costa Blanca isn’t just a place to live. It’s a daily reminder that nature can heal, energize, and inspire us — even if it starts with a pair of elegant birds soaking in saltwater. Lo Pagán’s basins are my go-to spot, especially in summer when the water is hot and the mud baths feel amazing.

Sometimes we focus on luxury or views when dreaming of our future life, but forget the basics — like clean air, sunlight, and places like Lo Pagán that quietly offer so much more than meets the eye.
Just one heads-up: the mud may help your joints and skin — but it smells. Not exactly “spa day” vibes. Totally worth it, though.
