Many of you may have heard — or even experienced — the unexpected blackout we had last Monday across parts of Spain. No electricity, no internet. I happened to be in Calpe, right in the middle of a walk through the city.

No power. No phone network. But the town didn’t stop. People were still out enjoying the day — walking, running, cycling, and gathering at restaurants. Cold drinks replaced coffee, and conversations filled the air instead of screens. It was a refreshing reminder: while technology is great, some of life’s best moments happen unplugged. And you know what? We can still enjoy them — no electricity needed!

Living in a place where the sun shines most of the year, the sea air is fresh, and the scenery invites you outdoors makes it even easier.

Costa Blanca is a great place for anyone who loves to stay active — from cycling and water sports to running, golf, or outdoor fitness. With its mild climate and diverse landscape, this region naturally supports movement, well-being, and the joy of outdoor living.

And if you ask any cyclist, they’ll tell you: Costa Blanca is cycling heaven.

The town of Calpe, where I spent some time last week, along with nearby towns, is one of the best areas to ride. Its mix of coast and mountains creates ideal routes — both relaxed and challenging. Every year, cycling enthusiasts and professional teams from across Europe come here to train. The roads are smooth, the climbs rewarding, and the views — especially from places like Coll de Rates — are unforgettable.

Off the bike, Calpe is a beautiful coastal town with golden beaches, fresh seafood, and the iconic Peñón de Ifach rising from the sea. It’s the kind of place that inspires you to move more and breathe deeper.

Even if you just rent a bike for the day, cycling in Calpe is a fantastic way to explore and stay active — no electricity needed, just your own power and a spirit for discovery.
